Dismissal

Yesterday, my friend told me about one of her experience. She worked for a company. One day, he was ready to meet one of the company’s clients.  Suddenly, she was asked to meet her boss immediately. Then the shocking verdict came: she was dismissed from the company. She was very sad and cried indeed. The reason for the dismissal was she could not cooperate well with other colleague.  Hearing the reason, she could not believe it since the boss always supported her.
However, she decided to move on. She then decided to start her own business. Although she had to deal with many difficulties running a startup, she gradually could settle her business.
In one conversation, she told me that her boss apparently was an unstable and moody person. Then I added that had her boss been a good leader, he wouldn’t have just believed on what others said. I also said that the boss was not ethical to treat his employee like that.
From this story, we can learn our lesson: be a stable, wise, and ethical person, especially when you are a leader.

Getting Out of the Comfort Zone

I have decided to do a challenging speech project. In the project, I have to act as if I am a salesperson offering a relatively cheap product to a customer. I have persuade3 someone to buy my product.  For me, the challenges lie on the fact that I have to be answer unpredictable questions, I have to be more spontaneous, and I have to make more preparations. I have to prepare not only the speech but also the role play as well.
Why is this project challenging? Well, I am not a spontaneous person. I am more comfortable when doing everything according to a plan. In all my speeches, planned it, I drafted it, delivered it without questions and answers (Q&A) session, as well as role play session. In addition to that, I don’t think I am a persuasive person.
Sometimes, I feel that I want to change the project to a more comfortable one. However, I remember someone who took similar project. She said that she took the project because she is not good at it, so that she was willing to learn. I think I have the same reason with her. I have to get out of my comfort zone.

The Evening Discussion

A few days ago, I went home together with my friend. She gave me a ride. Along the journey, we talked a lot. However, our conversation was dominated with two subjects, namely the overall employment condition in the society, the beauty of giving, and aging parents.
The employment condition today is not so good. Many workers have been laid off due to falling profits and dropping demand. To some degree, this might be unavoidable. So, we always have to be prepared. That is the conclusion
We also talked about the importance of giving. Logically, if we give money to others, it reduces the amount of money we have. However, religion teaches us that the more we give something sincerely, the more we will get.
As we were close to my destination, we talked about aging persons. As people age, their behavior changes. Unfortunately, younger people don’t always feel comfortable with such situation. Nevertheless, we must keep appreciating them. Without them, we might not become what we are today.
Finally, I arrived home. At that time, I felt gratitude for having the chance to talk with a wise person.
